あかりの道具ってなんですか？
What is Akali light and lighting appliances?

 火を使った照明器具を総称して「あかりの道具」と呼びますが、その言い回しには様々な言葉あります。

・あかり （明かり、灯り、燈）
・あかりの道具
・ともし火（灯）
・灯具（燈具）
・古灯具（古燈具）
・灯火具（燈火具）
・灯器（燈器）
・古灯器（古燈器）
・灯火器（燈火器）
・灯火器具（燈火器具）

　 どの表現が適切なのかは説明の対象により異なるものと思います。例えば論文であれば後者の方がより正式な表現方法になるものと思います。反対に一般の方への説明においては前者の方がより親近感が出ると思います。なおカーボンフィラメント電球やアーク灯等もあかりの道具の部類に含めることがあります。これは灯火のあかりの道具の歴史と部分的に重なっており、大きな影響を与えたことによります。ここでは灯火の歴史に終止符を打つことになったあかりの道具として紹介することに致します。

 Akali means illumination, light or lighiting.  The word "illumination" gives an achademic impression while the word "light" is quite broad.  The word "Akali" in Japanese has a meaning of a soft and gentle light that you can stare at.  To give it a hint, we express it as Akali light.  The lighting appliances that we refer to are basically these that utilize fire as a light source.  Filament light bulbs and arc lamps are included in this category of Akali light since they share a part of the history of lighting using fire and the ones which virtually ended the daily use of candles and oil lamps.  For English translation, we are using the following English words.
