そろばんは江戸時代に商業の発達や寺子屋の隆盛により、商人や武士の間で広く用いられるようになりました。江戸民具街道で展示されているそろばんには200年以上前のものがあります。携帯型のものや、箱型の矢立で硯とそろばんがセットになった珍しいものも展示されています。
Abacuses were widely used in the Edo Period by
merchants and samurais with the growth of business and public education. The one
exhibited at Edo Mingu Kaido is more than 200 years old.
