Tobacco trays and pipes

 火鉢や鉄瓶のように各家庭や人の集まる集会場には煙草盆が用意されていました。このため様々な煙草盆が数多く残っています。煙草を吸うための煙管（キセル）にはユニークな作りのものが数多くあります。煙管入れと煙草の葉を入れる容器とセットにして携帯しました。江戸民具街道にはキセル入れ職人の道具が展示されています。プラスチックのように堅いケースが和紙のこよりを編んで漆を塗って作られているというのはまさに驚きといえるでしょう。

 Every house and meeting place where people gathered had tobacco trays.  Due to this reason, there still remain numbers of old tobacco trays.  To smoke tobacco, the Japanese used pipes.  The pipes come in various unique designs and smokers carry them in pipe cases with tobacco containers or porches.   A tool set used by an artisan who made pipe cases is on display: you may be surprised to know that the tobacco pipe cases are made of washi (Japanese paper) twisted, weaved and lacquered.
