囲炉裏と自在鉤
Irori hearth and jizaikagi pot hooks

　江戸の町では畳の上で使う火鉢が多用されましたが地方では暖房と調理を兼ねた囲炉裏が使われました。囲炉裏の上には天井の梁から囲炉裏櫓と自在鉤が吊るされ、自在鉤の先に鍋等を引っ掛けて調理をしたり湯を沸かしたりしました。囲炉裏櫓からは弁慶と呼ばれる道具をつり下げて、ここに串刺しにした魚を差し込んで燻製を作りました。江戸民具街道では実際に使われていた囲炉裏を部分的に再現しています。自在鉤の展示コーナーには彫刻が施されたり、天然木を使ったりした様々な自在鉤のコレクションが展示されています。

 In the city of Edo, irori braziers were popular while houses at rural areas had a hearth in the floor for heating and cooking. Above a hearth, a wooden frame and a pot hook are hung from a crossbeam and a pot was hooked for cooking or boiling water. From the wooden frame, a tool called Benkei is hung to which fishes with sticks are inserted for roasting.  At Edo Mingu Kaido, a heath was reappeared.  At the jizaikagi display section, there are various kinds of pot-hooks showcased; some have carving and same are made of natural wood branches.
