座繰り・糸巻き車
Zaguri reels and spinning wheels

　明治時代に生糸は日本の主要な輸出品となり、農家では養蚕業を副業としてやっているところもありました。繭を煮ながら生糸を巻き取る作業には座繰りと呼ばれる回転式の車が使われました。糸を巻き取る際に均一に糸が巻けるように工夫された座繰りもあります。巻き取った生糸がくっ付かないように巻き直す作業にはより大きな車輪の糸巻き車が使われました。使い込まれて古色を帯びた座繰りや糸巻き車は機能美だけでなく美しい形体美を帯びています。

 During the Meiji Period, silk was one of the major exportation products in Japan.  Some farmers involved in the sericulture industry as a side job. Zaguri reels were used to reel silk off cocoons while boiling them.  More advanced zaguri machines are equipped with swing arms to reel silk thread with uniformity.  After silk thread is reeled off, it is rewound using a bigger wheel in order to avoid the silk thread sticks together.  Old zaguri and spinning wheels having patina show the both functional beauty and physical beauty.
