船箪笥と車箪笥
Funa-dansu (a chest of drawers used in a ship) and Kuruma-dansu (Wheeled chest)

　船箪笥は江戸時代から明治にかけて我が国の輸送手段の中心だった北前船や千石船と呼ばれる商船に積み込まれて使われたもので、狭い船内や携行にも便利なように小型化され、荒海にも耐えられるよう頑丈な木組みと鉄金具で保護されている箪笥です。
 車箪笥は比較的大型の箪笥でスライド式の扉と小さな車輪が4つ付いています。火事等の災害時に綱を付けて移動できるようになっています。車長持ちは車箪笥と同じくらいの大きさがありますが、側面に扉はなく、上部に蓋が付いています。こちらは野外での販売の時などに商品を入れて運んだといわれいます。

 Funa-dansu is a small size chest of drawers used by merchants in a Japanese ship such as Sengoku-bune which served an important role in transporting merchandise in a large amount in the Edo Period and in the early Meiji Period.  It was made to be small and portable with a rigid structure protected with iron strips and rivets to be used in a rough sea.

 Kuruma-dansu (a wheeled chest) is a rather large size chest of drawers having slide doors equipped with four wheels so that it can be transferred to other locations in case of emergency such as a fire.  Wheeled trunk is nearly as large as a wheeled chest without slide doors but a huge lid on the top.
